Certain tests may be required for all students at a grade level or in a group. Under Virginia requirements, Virginia Standards of Learning SOL tests are given in reading and mathematics to all students in grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, and science tests are given to students in grades 5 and 8.
